Resources for Android Custom List View and Fragment Activities

I was halfway through answering this question on SO when I realized that the OP didn’t want to do any sort of programming. I thought I’d put this here just because…

When you install the android sdk it comes with quite a few samples of which cover layouts. But for List view customizations I did a google search and came up with this. It’s a pretty big topic actually though. If you are a video oriented learner then this Google I/O video may work. (Tons of good videos on Android Development there. In particular I’d highly recommend the android best practices videos.)

For the second page there are a couple of ways you can go about it. I’d recomend looking into Fragment activities and in particular this blog entry from google’s official android developer’s blog. Note that fragments are backward compatible back to 1.6 (Donuts I think…) So there is no blatant reason not to use them.

Finally I would recomend you pick up a good book. CommonWare has a ton of useful stuff and I’m loving Beginning Android Application Development (Wrox Programmer to Programmer).

For 1 its in color. (OH YEAH) for 2 its easy to use as a thumb through ref and can just as easily be used to teach a class. Pretty Versatile for a relatively small book.
